Our trip out of Albuquerque to Phoenix was filled with even more fantastic landscapes, stunning vistas, and my first taste of a Brookie.
What’s a Brookie you ask? You’ll have to watch the video to find out. The scenery in Arizona is pretty amazing. One minute you’re driving through vast, open deserts, and the next you’re in the middle of forested mountains. Throw in a few thunderstorms, and it was a pretty cool drive. Once we arrived in Phoenix, we dodged the heat as best we could and got ready for our event on Saturday.
We arrived at Game Depot at 10:00 a.m., and we were warmly greeted by the owners, Patty and Dave Pettit. They had been promoting our visit for weeks and had all their local gamers excited and waiting for us. Within minutes, we were set up and the games were started.
We’ve had some fun, jam-packed events on our tour, but this was really something else. We ran non-stop demos of every game, all day long. Many of Game Depot’s regular customers were already fans of Castle Panic and The Wizard’s Tower, but hadn’t played our other games. This meant we had gamers literally lined up to try out Bears! and Bloodsuckers. It was awesome! Patty and Dave have fostered a really special kind of relationship with their customers, and every chair was filled with a friendly face that they knew by name. We ran everyone through our games and made sure they all had some fun swag to take with them. After Game Depot sold out of all our games, we had to get busy signing all those copies. We’re going to need some new pens before much longer.
When the store shut down at 7:00 p.m., we were beyond tired but buzzing with excitement. We’d made a bunch of new friends and had a crazy good time. We took a few minutes to talk with Dave about his store, his community, and the state of the industry. You can see that interview below. We have to give special thanks to our biggest fan in Phoenix, Noble Hess. He was such a pro at Castle Panic that he was able to teach new gamers how to play while Anne-Marie and I demoed our other games. Thanks again, Noble!
We’ve got one more store visit here in Phoenix. On Thursday, July 11th, we’ll be at Imperial Outpost starting at 6:00 p.m. This will be our last stop in Arizona, so if you missed out on Game Depot, this will be your chance!
